Jesuit High School football assistant coach is fired

In what is a truly shocking and outrageous display, a high school coach punched a player as he was “coming off the field after a mistake.” The Twitter video of the coach hitting the player has become hot news in the sports world. Fans and players are outraged at these violent actions resulting in the firing of the coach. A fitting punishment, most would say.

In the video, the part-time assistant coach for Jesuit High School football punched a player wearing jersey number 94 as he ran off the field after a mistake during a game against their rival team, Tampa Catholic. Firing him is the best solution and justice for the player, and hopefully, this incident will teach everyone that there are certain rules in football, and that includes non-violence.

Following the incident, Rev. Richard Hermes said in a statement that the school reached out to the player and his family and confirmed that he was not injured. He also reported that the assistant coach will no longer be employed at Jesuit Tigers or any other school because of his irrational behavior and actions.

While most of the attention went to the assistant coach hitting a player in last Friday’s game, the Jesuit Tigers went on to win the game with an impressive 66-35. The last victory marks the program’s 23rd straight win over their rival Tampa Catholic as well as their last victory in the regular season.

The Tigers delivered an impressive performance by scoring on every possession and completed the game with 637 total yards and 9 touchdowns. Head coach Matt Thompson said, “I’ve never seen offensive output like that. You guys will remember this game forever.” Indeed, Friday’s game is a game to remember! 

Jesuit High School football celebrates the end of the game with a 66-35 victory over their rival Tampa Catholic. Hopefully, no such assistant coach tantrums will tarnish the school’s reputation again. The Tigers now sit 8-2 and will face the 6-4 Pinellas Park in the first round of the Class 3M, Region 2 playoffs Friday.
