Losing a game against a top-tier team shouldn’t cause a blow as severe as the Stanford defeat. Coach Prime Deion Sanders had stepped in as head coach, lifting Colorado from a shameful 1-11 record last season to an undefeated 3-0 start this season. However, ever since the Oregon Ducks ended Coach Prime’s honeymoon phase, Colorado has struggled to maintain another winning streak.

Stanford came in as a 13-point underdog to Colorado with 1-4. Everybody thought it was an easy win, especially after the Buffs secured 29-0 at halftime. But the game changed in the second half, where Colorado became the largest blown lead team while Stanford went on to secure the 4th largest comeback in the Pac-12 history.

Deion Sanders holding on to his faith and determination post-defeat

It’s easy to see where Deion Sanders Jr. got his unflinching ‘never give up’ attitude. His father has a similar attitude towards winning and losing as he displayed when his team lost to the USC Trojans and Oregon. Following the 46-43 Stanford loss, Coach Prime Deion Sanders told reporters, “I’m truly upset. I’m truly disturbed.”

Deion Sanders knows that complacency took over Colorado as they entered the second half with a remarkable 29-0. He said, “I felt complacency going into the half because we stalled offensively. We gave up some yardage. I just didn’t like how I felt going in at halftime. We come back out, and here comes the complacency. Here comes the team that I can’t stand, that you can’t stand, that you can’t understand how that happens to us.

As Deion Sanders Jr. said, losses come to motivate you to do better so you don’t have to feel the crushing weight of defeat. Hopefully, Coach Prime’s determination and patience will keep the Buffs on their feet as they rise from this defeat to face the UCLA Bruins in Week 8.
