If anybody is more disturbed by the USC Trojans going down in the hands of the Washington Huskies, other than the team itself, it’s none other than former USC player OJ Simpson. Among many people, the 76-year-old NFL prodigy feels that Caleb Williams has nothing to do with the disappointing defeat against the Washington Huskies. And we can’t disagree!

For someone who puts all his emotions into his plays, Caleb Williams took the defeat to heart, as he was seen getting emotional after the game. Looks like Caleb’s heart-wrenching display of emotions has touched Simpson as well. OJ Simpson’s undying faith and support in the 21-year-old broken quarterback is admirable.

After the recent defeat of Caleb Williams and the Trojans in the hands of Washington, OJ Simpson took to his Twitter account to express his views on the game. He captioned his video, “Unusual, interesting weekend.” And yes, it has been an exciting and unexpected weekend for USC fans who had to fall in a 52-42 loss.

OJ Simpson shows his sympathy for USC star QB and stated in his video, “I feel bad for Caleb Williams and the effort he put out there.” He goes on to say that no matter which quarterback is playing that game, even Patrick Mahomes, the USC defense isn’t going to let them fare any better than the Heisman Trophy winner who went on to complete 77% of his passes and secured four touchdowns despite a sad 42-52 loss.

Of all people, OJ Simpson knows how it feels to be a Heisman Trophy winner where everyone’s expectation of you is high. He was a star USC Heisman Trophy winner whose successful performance met a hitch when he was first drafted into the NFL. USC’s poor defense is much to blame for the last game’s dismal performance. He also added, “The good news is the USC defensive coordinator is gone.”

The dismissal of USC defensive coordinator

The last USC vs. Washington game marked the end of the career of Alex Grinch as USC defensive coordinator. OJ Simpson feels that USC’s defense is what’s keeping the team from pushing ahead of the game. He feels that Alex Grinch getting fired after the game should have happened a long time ago.

Alex Grinch worked as Oklahoma’s defensive coordinator before he began his position at USC in 2022. USC suffered terribly in defense throughout the 2023 season. Following the 52-42 loss and the dismal defense of the team, head coach Lincoln Riley announced his dismissal from the program.

The USC Trojans still have a chance to redeem their Pac-12 title if they win both their last two games. But given the team’s crushed spirit, the next game against the Oregon Ducks could pose a big challenge. Hopefully, they’ll brush up their defensive skills before they head into their next game.
