After leading Michigan to its first National Championship since 1997, Jim Harbaugh handed over the leadership rein to Sherrone Moore. The new Los Angeles Chargers HC has a strong belief and confidence in him as the HC. Moore replaced Harbaugh when he was suspended twice last season for violating NCAA rules.

The former Michigan OC and interim coach became the first Black HC in the program’s history. The 38-year-old also became the youngest person to be named the HC in the Big Ten. With Moore as the new Michigan HC, Jim Harbaugh is at peace even if he hopped to the NFL.

Jim Harbaugh is glad Sherrone Moore is his replacement

After joining the LA Chargers as the HC, Jim Harbaugh recently appeared on The Rich Eisen Show on YouTube to explain how it was “a fairy tale ending at Michigan.” He shared how “passing the baton to Sherrone Moore” saved him from a major upset that would’ve happened to Michigan. “I’m glad that this was a situation where I didn’t have to die,” he said.

Jim Harbaugh explained how a coach leaving a college football program always hurts feelings, whether it’s the fired coach who gets hurt or the collective program when the coach decides to leave. The only way that tempers aren’t flared is “if the coach dies.” But he didn’t have to die nor worry about the program he left behind because he knows that the Wolverines are in good hands with Moore taking the reins.

Sherrone Moore is a capable HC for Michigan

Sherrone Moore began his journey with the Wolverines in 2018 as a TE coach. He was promoted to co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in 2021 and became the sole offensive coordinator in 2022. He mentored a dominant offense that averaged 37.6 points and 457.6 yards per game last season, winning the Joe Moore Award as the nation’s best offensive line.

Moore has developed a connection with the players, especially the quarterbacks, who praised his ability to motivate and inspire them. Along with Harbaugh, he helped J.J. McCarthy become one of the best passers in the country. With him leading Michigan, we can only hope that it’ll be a fruitful run.
