Under former HC Jim Harbaugh’s roster, star QB JJ McCarthy led the Michigan Wolverines to the National Championship victory over the Washington Huskies for the 2023 season. In his final year in Michigan, the NFL draft prospect secured a 72.3 completion percentage and recorded 2,991 yards and 22 TDs. But now that he’s leaving for the pro league, the big Michigan question remains — who will be the starting QB?

Michigan currently has two promising quarterbacks, Davis Warren and Alex Orji, and one could be a potential starter. The Maize and Blue spring game allowed fans to decide who would be the better starting QB prospect between the two. But Sherrone Moore seems to be thinking outside the box about this QB situation.

With Michigan completing their spring game, OC and QB coach Kirk Campbell said they may not be looking for QB prospects from the transfer portal. But what if an elite QB prospect is out there waiting to be snatched by teams trying to build a winning roster? Adding to the intrigue, Sherrone Moore replied, “We’ll see,” when asked if they’re choosing a starting QB from their current roster or the portal.

As previously stated, Warren and Orji are already the preferred starting QBs. During the spring game, Warren led the Maize team and threw two TDs with three completions over 35 yards. Meanwhile, Orgi started the Blue team going 12-for-18, resulting in a 20-yard rushing touchdown. As the game showcased, the talent is there but they still have room for improvement. And another comment from Sherrone Moore also gives rise to more curiosity.

Sherrone Moore’s interesting comment on Jack Tuttle

He’s got the talent,” this is what Sherrone Moore said of Jack Tuttle. The former Indiana Hoosiers player may not be a big name on the Wolverines’ roster as of now because he only started a few games. He entered Michigan as the highest high school-ranked recruit only after Jadyn Davis.

In 2023, Jack Tuttle completed 88 percent of his passes on 17 attempts. But he already had experience as a starter in the Big Ten when he was with the Hoosiers. Hopefully, Moore will be able to use this talent in the future. As of now, the QB situation remains a mystery as to whether it will be Warren, Orji, Tuttle, or someone from the portal.
