The LA Chargers are looking to clear a few veterans from the squad but it comes with its own set of financial risks. Jim Harbaugh arrived on the team this past January and is now trying to redefine the squad for the new league year that is set to begin on March 13 so free-agent signings can be made official after that.

Jim Harbaugh, the former coach for the Michigan Wolverines, is being supported by the fans to rebuild the team as he wants. After an undefeated 15-0 winning streak in Ann Arbour and then winning the natty, it is obvious that Harbaugh is a skilled coach with a lot of experience under his belt. Now, as he pursues his dreams of winning the Super Bowl with the Chargers, he’s letting a few veteran players go and hopefully free a lot of money at the same time.

It has recently been reported that Khalil Mack, Keenan Allen, Joey Bosa, and Mike Williams will either be traded or cut off from the team by tomorrow, latest. Though these players have been with the team for a long time now, it is the right moment to bring in a newer and fresher pair of legs that can scale the Chargers’ game massively.

Moreover, the collective amount of $142.3 million accounts for 56% of the salary cap of all four players. Thus, selling all these players away would cost the Spanos family dearly. However, Keenan Allen seems like an exception out of the four players as the WR is a vital part of the Chargers. But what’s interesting to note is that the Chargers have previously indulged in exploratory talks about trading Allen.

Will Allen end up staying with the Chargers or be released with the likes of Mack and Williams?

When asked about whether he believes he will be in LA or try his talents out with some other NFL team, Allen said, “Yeah. Absolutely. I don’t see myself going anywhere.” Allen comes with a $34.71 million cap hit for the Chargers but continues to be hopeful that he gets to stay with the team that drafted him in 2013.

The 31-year-old had an impeccable performance in 13 games where he had over 108 receptions along with 1,243 receiving yards. There is no doubt about the fact that Allen is a talented player but the Chargers will have to look at the business side of things as well. Currently, they have negative- $44,023 million in cap space, meaning some players will have to be let go soon. Additionally, Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa, and Mike Williams all have plus $30 million cap hits and thus, it seems like the logical decision to either let them go or issue a trade.
