Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin is enjoying himself by extending a troll at the Auburn men’s basketball team. In what was an action-packed game where the No. 4 Tigers were dominant for most of the game, their blowout NCAA tournament upset against No. 13 Yale gave Auburn fans a huge reason to celebrate. As Yale won the first round of the NCAA Championship on Friday, Kiffin couldn’t help but display his pleasure online.
The 76-78 loss wasn’t expected on the cards for Charles Barkley and Auburn but it accentuated the hype of March Madness. Their recent defeat is a big blow for the SEC this week as other SEC teams including Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida, and Mississippi State all suffered similar fates in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. See how Lane Kiffin is handling the loss.

Friday’s basketball game had everyone waiting with bated breath. When the winner was declared, the celebration was epic as is seen from the following X post captioned, “Charles Barkley’s Auburn LOSS!” Following the post, Lane Kiffin joined the rejoicing fans as he reposted it, taking a subtle dig at Auburn.

The Tigers came in strong for the first part of the game but when they started falling behind the Bulldogs, Lane Kiffin took to X to post a seemingly harmless “good luck guys” on Auburn Jungle’s post. But considering the timing of the post and the repost after the game, it seems more of a troll than anything else. Kiffin had the opportunity to move to Auburn a year ago but he remained in Oxford on an extension of a six-year contract. Could it be an old rivalry grudge?

Auburn used to be Lane Kiffin’s arch-rival
There’s no clear reason about Kiffin’s dig on Auburn’s loss considering he’s the HC of an SEC program himself. But if we look back, he was once a rival of Auburn when he served in Alabama as the OC and QB coach, defeating them in each of his three seasons from 2014-16. After coming to Ole Miss, he faced the Tigers four times, winning the last two games.

Another reason for Kiffin’s animosity towards Auburn could be his unscrupulous relationship with Charles Barkley, whose name is almost synonymous with Auburn for his four seasons of playing there while in college. More than a decade ago, Barkley commented on Kiffin, “He has to have pictures of someone having s*x with a monkey. He’s had three really good jobs and did not deserve any of the three.” Old bad blood could be a forever thing so who knows?
