University of Alabama’s head football coach, Kalen DeBoer, announced on Friday that Courtney Morgan has officially joined the Crimson Tide as their general manager. Morgan’s primary responsibilities will include managing the team’s roster and overseeing the day-to-day operations of both the personnel and recruiting departments. Notably, Morgan was DeBoer’s first hire at Alabama.

Before joining Alabama, Morgan worked alongside DeBoer for two seasons at Washington, where he served as the director of player personnel and general manager. During his tenure, Morgan played a crucial role in securing a top-30 recruiting class and was instrumental in adding key players to the University of Washington team through the transfer portal.

Kalen DeBoer trusts Morgan as Crimson Tide’s new architect of talent

DeBoer believes in Morgan’s ability to perform as general manager. Morgan has stated that he’s focused on doing what’s best for the Crimson Tide and sticking to Kalen DeBoer’s plan. Deboer himself as expressed a lot of confidence in Morgan, “Courtney is such an important part of our program. He has great relationships across the country and is an essential part of helping us recruit and evaluate talent both at the high school level and in the transfer portal. Courtney is an important pillar in what we are trying to accomplish at Alabama, and I am very excited to be able to bring him to Tuscaloosa.”

“I love working for Coach DeBoer and I am looking forward to continuing the standard that Alabama football has set,” Morgan said. He also expressed that everyone on the staff team shares a common goal and believes in Coach DeBoer’s winning process. He further emphasized that trust and hard work are crucial for success.

Morgan has a wide-ranging and remarkable background in sports. Initially, he played offensive line for Michigan from 1999 to 2003 and spent the 2021 season there as well. He also served as director of player development at UCLA from 2013 to 2014.
