Kirby is well-educated, and he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in finance from the University of Georgia. His love for the Bulldogs is because he was once a player on the same team during his college days! He played as a defensive back for the Georgia Bulldogs. Kirby was always interested in football, but what got him in was his dad.

The head coach was born on December 23, 1975, in Montgomery, Alabama, to parents Sonny and Sharon Smart. His father, Sonny was a former football coach who had a profound influence on Kirby’s career path. Kirby grew up in a supportive family environment with his two siblings, Karl and Kendall Smart. From an early age, Kirby Smart saw himself as a professional football entity, thanks to his father’s career and passion for the sport.

Kirby’s partner in crime and partner in life

Kirby Smart’s wife and rock is Mary Beth Lycett Smart. His wife is a former basketball player for the University of Georgia. They met in high school and have been inseparable ever since. Mary provides constant support to Kirby, supporting him through the ups and downs of his coaching career. “She’s the one who keeps me grounded,” Smart said in an interview. “She’s the one who reminds me of what’s important.” Mary’s often seen cheering on the sidelines at Georgia games, proudly sporting her Bulldogs gear. Mary is also a dedicated mother to their three children, Andrew, Weston, and Julia. 

The head coach’s children are growing up surrounded by football. Kirby has made sure that his trio gets into sports and stays active, as Andrew and Weston are following in their father’s footsteps by playing football. “I want my kids to learn the values of hard work and discipline,” Smart said. “Football teaches you those things.” Julia Smart is not left behind, she is also making a name for herself in sports. It is safe to say that the Smart family is a sports family that has been involved in sports from a young age. As Kirby continues to lead, it’s clear that the strength and unity of his family will remain a cornerstone of his journey.
