Re’Mahn “Ray” Davis began his college football career with the Temple Owls in 2019. His exceptional performance, amassing 935 yards and scoring eight TDs, led to him being recognized as the first-team Freshman All-American by PFF. In 2021, he made a daring move to the Vanderbilt Commodores, where he staged a remarkable comeback in 2022, contending for the SEC Comeback Player of the Year despite only playing three games in 2021 due to injury.
With a final year of eligibility remaining, he joined the Kentucky Wildcats in 2023 and ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Watching this RB talent on the field, you may never imagine he had one of the most difficult childhoods. But growing up in the Hayes Valley area of San Francisco, he said, “Unfortunately, I didn’t have the best meals and I didn’t have the clothes. I didn’t have the will to want to go to school.” Here’s the early life of Ray Davis, who entered the 2024 NFL Draft.

After wrapping up the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Night 2 of the draft commences with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell bringing in Kentucky RB Ray Davis. After his parents, Raymond Davis and Jessica Blazer, constantly found themselves in legal tangles, he was already in the foster care system by the age of 8. Not only that, but he also spent two months in a homeless shelter when he was 12.

However, this is not the end of the story for Davis, who was later adopted by his former teachers Ben and Alexa Klaus. Today, he stands as one of the nation’s top SEC RB transfers with 1,000 yards. His unwavering determination and resilience are commendable as he states, “You never hear the success stories, you always hear the failure stories. My goal is to be a successful story. I want to be an advocate for kids in the system, foster kids, because I once was like them.” As Davis and the other 32 team representatives prepare to welcome their new players, let’s briefly recap what unfolded in the draft yesterday.

Some sections on the first night of the draft confirmed rumors, while some raised eyebrows. It’s no big-brainer that the Chicago Bears selected Caleb Williams with their No. 1 pick, followed by Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye to the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots, respectively.
The Arizona Cardinals picked the top WR off the board – Marvin Harrison Jr. while Malik Nabers and Rome Odunze went to the New York Giants and Bears, respectively. While most of the picks align with the fans’ speculation, the biggest shocker in last night’s draft was the Atlanta Falcons drafting Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8 despite already having a star veteran QB in Kirk Cousins. Let’s keep watching the night 2 of the draft to see if anything surprising happens.
