The Derby native should look on the bright side of things. Just some days after Sherrone Moore replaced Jim Harbaugh as Michigan’s HC, his old school decided to laud him with a special honor. And he was all smiles when he went to receive the respectable accolade despite a potentially challenging season ahead.

Harbaugh left Michigan, and so did Jesse Minter, Ben Herbert, JJ McCarthy, and Blake Corum. But now isn’t the time to lament over the loss of staff and players because there’s a big season to look ahead to. Sherrone Moore already has things to take care of before heading into the 2024 season.

Derby High School lauds Sherrone Moore as a Hall of Famer

The past few days had been a roller-coaster ride for Michigan’s new HC Sherrone Moore who took Jim Harbaugh’s spot after his departure to the NFL. But now the Derby native is reaping the deserving acclaim at his old school. Derby Informer Sports posted on Twitter a clip of Moore attending his previous school “to be honored for his Derby High School Athletics Hall of Fame selection.”

Sherrone Moore was born and brought up in Derby, Kansas. In 2004, he graduated from Derby High School after which he played two seasons of junior college football as a guard for Butler Community College before moving to Oklahoma in 2006 where he played 14 games as an offensive guard. After graduating in 2008, he became a teaching assistant at Louisville, Central Michigan, and Michigan until being recently named as the new HC for the Wolverines. And now his actual run as an HC is under preparation.

There’s no time to waste and Michigan’s new HC is more than aware of the things that need to be done for 2024. Becoming one of the nation’s top recruiters at No. 21 as per 247Sports, one of his main focuses is on recruiting key players that can uphold the standards of the National Champions. Coming to coaching assistants, Michigan already lost three major coaches to Jim Harbaugh and the LA Chargers and Sherrone Moore needs to make a decision.

Coaches like TE coach Grant Newsome, DL coach Mike Elston, DB coach Steve Clinkscale, QB coach Kirk Campbell, RB coach Mike Hart, and WR coach Ron Bellamy are in line for promotion to OC or DC. And with QB JJ McCarthy heading to the NFL, Moore needs to find a new QB which is a debate between Alex Orji and incoming 2024 recruit No. 8 QB Jadyn Davis. It’s truly going to be a lot of responsibility for Moore but fans are confident in him given his strong leadership when he led the Wolverines during their former HC’s suspension in the last season.
