J.J. McCarthy’s ascent in the 2024 NFL Draft has been nothing short of a meteoric rise. Initially projected as a top-10 pick, his trajectory was catapulted by the unwavering support of Coach Jim Harbaugh, propelling him into the Top 5. Some even speculate he could secure the coveted No. 2 quarterback position, trailing only the seemingly untouchable Caleb Williams.

While critics may dismiss the hype surrounding McCarthy as mere media frenzy, those in his inner circle stand firmly in his corner. Recently, Michigan Football wide receiver Roman Wilson, a pivotal figure in their offense alongside McCarthy, voiced his admiration for his quarterback. This timely endorsement, just ahead of the draft, could significantly bolster McCarthy’s prospects.

On a recent podcast, Roman Wilson didn’t hold back when asked about J.J. McCarthy“I thought he was gonna be a top-10 pick. Before he declared, he was top 20, whatever.” Now, his huge growth backs up Wilson’s early confidence in him. “I call him like a go-getter,” Wilson said. Wilson also confidently added, “He’s gonna go out and win games. He’s a great locker room guy. He has unbelievable talent in his arms and his legs. He can make any throw. There’s a strong buzz that the Vikings are looking hard at drafting quarterback J.J. McCarthy. He led his former team, the Wolverines, to their first national championship in decades. Now everything makes sense because the Vikings recently traded to get higher draft picks, and rumors say they want a top quarterback. They have the picks to make it happen, and McCarthy’s stats show he’s a good choice.

Last season, McCarthy dominated the field with play-action passes, completing 76.3% of them. He’s accurate, fast-thinking, and can make plays happen even when things get tough. Vikings’ Sam Darnold might fill the role for now, but McCarthy has the long-term potential the team desperately needs. Also, Minnesota’s offense is loaded with talent, ready to complement McCarthy’s skills. He might not replace Cousins overnight, but his mobility will transform their offense. Now it’s logical for the Vikings to trade up for McCarthy, who has all the love of his former teammates.
