The 2024 NFL Draft promisеs a trеasurе trovе of quartеrback talеnt, showcasing the collеgiatе football’s finеst. At thе forеfront of this linеup stands Calеb Williams, the dynamic prospеct whose stеllar pеrformancе has ignitеd significant interest, notably from thе Chicago Bеars. Another emerging star is J.J. McCarthy, the former U-M star boy, who served a pivotal role in thе Wolvеrinеs’ triumphant National Championship campaign. Initially ovеrlookеd, McCarthy’s dazzling display at U-M Pro Day has pushed him into thе limеlight, prompting a flurry of inquiries from tеams including thе Falcons, Patriots, and Vikings.

However, former Detroit Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky has brought a fresh perspective into the frenzied discussions surrounding the 2024 NFL Draft. Amidst the hype surrounding former Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy and USC QB Caleb Williams as the most-wanted quarterbacks of this year’s draft class, Orlovsky has thrown a curveball by declaring the No. 3 LSU Tigers star Jayden Daniels as the true standout.

During a recent episode of ESPN’s Get Up, Orlovsky made his case, emphasizing the importance of consistent performance over flashy highlights. He highlighted Daniels’ exceptional decision-making and ball placement as key factors that set him apart from the competition. “The decision-making is about how well you process information. What’s my play? What’s the defense? Ball gets snapped. What am I supposed to do with the football on a consistent basis? Jayden Daniels does that the best in this class,” asserted Orlovsky.

“Number two: Ball placement, not accuracy, accuracy throwing to your guys. Ball placement thrown away from the defense. ‘Okay, I get the ball. The coverage is this. It’s tight in the NFL. Where do I throw it to get that completion?’ And that moment, Jayden Daniels does it the best in this class. I think if we’re honest about who the best quarterbacks are on a consistent basis year in and year out in the NFL, where these guys are, Caleb’s unbelievably talented, Jayden is the best guy in the draft for me,” he further added.

Daniels’ stock in the NFL Draft has been steadily climbing since the final year of his collegiate career, making him one of the top three quarterbacks on many NFL draft charts.

Once viewed as a fringe first-round prospect at best, his exceptional dual-threat abilities and impressive trajectory of improvement have propelled him into the conversation for a top-five selection. He opted out of the NFL Combine and officially kicked off his draft process at LSU’s pro day, where he underwent measurements before showcasing his skills on the field.

During the passing session, Daniels left evaluators impressed with his precision and power, particularly evident in his impressive deep throws. This is a notable strength that saw him lead all FBS quarterbacks with 70 completions of 20 yards or more in 2023. While unable to demonstrate his scrambling skills at the pro day, Daniels’ stellar performance in the throwing session solidified his status as a top prospect.
