As the Los Angeles Chargers‘ shiny new head coach, Jim Harbaugh has a plethora of expectations to fulfill. But the one that he would look forward to the most would be his Super Bowl dream. Harbaugh missed the Lombardi Trophy by a breath nearly 11 years ago, something he has envisioned since. Hence, to give more definition to his aspiration, legend Shannon Sharpe and his podcast buddy Ocho Cinco listed out the head coaches whom Harbaugh should follow.
These coaches had defined history with their Championship-filled records in both college football and the pro league. Now that Harbaugh has the CFB National Championship under his belt, his journey with the Chargers would be his shot at etching his name with these legendary head coaches. Moreover, the National Championship win makes Harbaugh an ideal coach who can lead the Chargers to the Super Bowl.

“They’re the three coaches that has success collegiately and has success, obviously won Super Bowls, in the NFL. So that speaks volumes,” stated Sharpe. Chad Johnson said in agreement, “Jim Harbaugh’s been able to do some of that, not many great coaches do. Sometimes coaches are good in college and sometimes coaches are not good in NFL.”

Jimmy Johnson won the college National Championship with the Miami Hurricanes in 1987. Later, when he shifted to the Dallas Cowboys, he led the team to win the Super Bowl in 1992 and 1993.

Barry Switzer followed suit, just in a grander way at the University of Oklahoma, with two undefeated seasons, and 8 consecutive divisional championships, and later winning the Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys.

Pete Carroll is one of the most celebrated of these three, with his two National Championship wins with the USC Trojans, followed by a Super Bowl win with the Seahawks. Johnson, Switzer, and Carroll were the only three to make it happen, while the others failed to make it to the list despite trying.

Nick Saban worked as the defensive coordinator of the Patriots for four seasons under Bill Belichick, which Saban later revealed was the “worst of my life.”Following this, Nick Saban also served as the Miami Dolphins coach, which earned him his first losing season as a head coach.
