After that humiliation, the team’s most recent loss against Utah has bagged hordes of criticism. And it’s the star quarterback and top NFL prospect Caleb Williams who is getting the most stings.

Caleb Williams faces backlash from social media

Amidst the disappointment from the last 34-32 defeat against Utah, the Trojans face trolls on social media, particularly Caleb Williams. A Twitter post surfaced that exposed the 21-year-old quarterback and his lagging performance of late. The post reads, “Caleb Williams was outplayed by EVERY one of the last 4 QBs USC faced. 1) Shedeur without Travis 2) Fertita (redshirt freshman) 3) Sam Hartman 4) Bryson Barnes (Utah walk-on).”

The Saturday game with the No. 14 Utah Utes at LA Memorial Coliseum came as a heartbreaking loss for Caleb Williams and USC fans. Utah dominated the game with 28-14 in the third quarter. Although Caleb Williams spurred things up later in the game, it still wasn’t enough for them to win the game.

Caleb Williams didn’t play his best, securing only 254 yards and zero touchdowns. Utah QB Bryson Barnes made a 26-yard rush to get the first down. This enabled Cole Becker to secure a 38-yard field goal to lock the game down, with the Utes winning by a mere 2 points.

Head coach Lincoln Riley said of the defeat, “Everybody expects you to be good. Everybody expects that you can have a championship-caliber team. And when you’re constantly trying to live up to those expectations, you can kind of fall away from maybe what puts you there in that position in the first place.

Twitter unleashes a flurry of spite for Caleb Williams and USC

Another person posted, “Caleb Williams is NOT Heisman worthy. He got worked and is such a sore loser. At least have the balls to tell Utah’s 2nd string quarterback ‘good game.'”

He got trolled by posts like “Caleb is definitely beating himself. Alone. In his room. To a pic of Caleb Williams.

Another frustrated fan wrote, “I have now lost money on each of the last three USC Utah games. I wanted the U to win, just made business decisions to profit off their loss… USC and Caleb Williams are the worst. Glad to see them get owned by a little ole “small market.””

Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans still have a chance to prove themselves. Next week, they’ll face the Cal Berkeley heading with 3-4. Watch as the 6-2 USC play against California at Memorial Stadium to determine their status in college football.
