The Colorado Buffaloes are facing a wave of controversy after players’ transfer exit and Shedeur Sanders, the team’s quarterback has found himself caught in the middle. In an attempt to defend his father and the team, Shedeur took some verbal swipes at the departing player, which unfortunately cast a negative light on him.

Sensing a need to change the narrative, Shedeur decided it was the “perfect timing” to release a single, hoping to shift the media’s focus. He previously gave a teaser of the song, “Perfect Timing,” at the team’s spring game alongside Deion Sanders Jr. and Lil Wayne. There, he joined the Lollipop rapper to add to the electric atmosphere in the packed stadium. He now released the full single online, hoping to bring some positive energy to Boulder. However, his ambitious attempt to follow in Coach Prime’s footsteps drew sharp criticism from the internet community.

Coach Prime started the Sanders family’s rap tradition back in 1994 with his song “Prime Time.” Now, his son Shedeur is following in his footsteps with the release of his own track, “Perfect Timing.” News of the song release, along with a snippet, was shared by ON3 with the caption, “Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders has released his first song Perfect Timing.”

The lyrics boast about Shedeur’s lavish lifestyle, referencing his Maybach, jewelry, and AP (Audemars Piguet) watches. The song’s artwork even features him flashing one of those luxury watches during a pregame warmup. This isn’t the first time Shedeur has made headlines for his watches – he famously showcased them during emotionally charged moments, including a big win against Colorado State. This new song, with its reference to his wristwear, seems like a bold response to recent controversies. However, the internet community has been quick to criticize, finding yet another reason to target the quarterback.

Critics roast the quarterback’s rap debut

Shedeur Sanders boasts around a solid 70% pass completion rate and over 3,270 yards thrown during his season with the Buffs. Now his football talent is undeniable, but his newly revealed “hidden talent” of rapping has fallen flat with fans. “Thank goodness he’s good at football, because jesus lordy that’s bad,” one person commented on the ON3 post about his song.

Many agreed, urging the quarterback to stick to his strengths on the field. Others drew comparisons to the Kardashian family’s spotlight-loving lifestyle, stating “The sanders have become the kardashians of cfb, it’s so annoying.” From on-field controversies to TV shows focused on them, the Sanders family undeniably shares similarities with the Kardashians’ over-the-top approach.

Some fans even linked the song’s criticism to the Buffs’ disappointing last season, commenting “Sounds about 4-8.”  Others were ruthlessly direct: “This song goes crazy on mute,” and “This is going to be used when he has a bad game.”

It’s unclear if the online backlash stems from controversies surrounding the Buffs or Shedeur’s genuine lack of rapping skills, but the timing of his music release seems “not-so-perfect”.
