After the finalists for the playoffs were confirmed earlier this week, the distinguished award for top assistant coach was also drawn up. And nope, it didn’t go to the Michigan Wolverines, as Iowa’s defensive coordinator emerged victorious. The Iowa Hawkeyes DC Phil Parker was named as the winner of the Broyles Award,

The ceremony took place on Tuesday as the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation presented the award. Now, per several Michigan supporters, it should’ve been awarded to Sherrone Moore, the interim HC. Moore took over the mantle from Jim Harbaugh when the latter got suspended by the Big Ten. It makes for a curious case of another snub by the organizers, and Wolverines’ fans seem displeased with the final decision.

Michigan fans launch an attack on social media

While the Iowa Hawkeyes defensive coordinator Phil Parker won the Broyles Award, it didn’t go down well with Michigan. Loyal Michigan supporters felt that their offensive coordinator and the interim HC were robbed of a major award! They didn’t keep quiet and expressed their dissatisfaction on social media.

One of the fans wrote on X: “Any voter that didn’t vote for Sherrone Moore should lose their award voting rights permanently. This was a no-brainer & they somehow f****d it up.” Michigan’s wide fanbase got triggered following the Broyles Award winner.

Iowa’s fans, too, took a mickey out of Moore losing out on the coveted title. Another fan, apparently an Iowa one, wrote on X: Sherrone Moore is up for 2 Academy Awards Best Drama for all that crying on national TV Best Comedy for referring to his employer as Michigan University.” To be completely honest, Moore did a wonderful job amidst all the controversy surrounding the three-match ban and guiding the team toward winning the last three games.

The Wolverines’ fans were shocked and hurt by the decision, with one user expressing his disappointment through a tweet. He wrote: “Sherrone Moore not winning is literally INSANE.” Moreover, given the circumstances in which Moore took over the side’s reins, it was quite challenging.

A seemingly hurt fan pointed out that the team should lift the NCAA title in response to the controversial snub. “Sherrone Moore lead Michigan to beat 2 Top 10 teams and didn’t get the Assistant Coach of the Year award…..man, I can’t f****g wait to see Michigan raise that trophy January 8th.”

The fans are certainly hurt, and they want the Michigan Wolverines to go all the way and win the trophy! It has been a season for the Wolverines, one that’d be remembered for ages to come!

"If at night you see your team losing or you wake up with the news of your team winning. Words will always be there sharing your emotions through thick and thin!" I've always had a strong connection with words. They've given me the passage to express my emotions from starting as a 7th grader writing poems in school to now writing articles based around leaders like Deion Sanders. My association and vocabulary with words have grown tremendously. Joining ES as an NFL and NCAA-focused writer has provided me with terrific opportunities. It has helped me understand the mindset of the GOAT Tom Brady, learn how Patrick Mahomes is writing his legacy, and watch Kirk Cousins push himself year after year. I resonate with the QBs- their aura, gameplay, and just the toughness to get hit and keep rising! Apart from writing, I love writing poetry and fine-tuning my muscles in a bid to get the perfect QB physique! - Jyot Singh Bindra, NFL author at ES.
