Deion Sanders has more than football on his mind. The 56-year-old head coach leading the Colorado Buffaloes into the Big 12 conference eagerly awaits a special arrival — his first grandchild!

His elder daughter, Deiondra Sanders, announced she’s expecting a baby boy, whom the Sanders clan calls “lil engine.” With the due date approaching, the excitement just keeps building. Recently, she flaunted her growing baby bump, revealing that she’s 30 weeks pregnant!

Coach Prime can no longer contain his impatience. He reposted Deiondra’s baby bump photo on his Instagram story with a playful caption: “Get your baby! We don’t have long. Yes yes yes, I mean… lololol My baby gon take us in the delivery room if they let her.” While her boyfriend, R&B singer Jacquees, will be there for the birth, Deion’s comment hints at his (unrealistic?) hope to be included.

Deion has been a supportive father since Deiondra’s pregnancy announcement in March. Though he initially made jokes about being too young to be a grandparent, he still promoted healthy choices for his daughter and the baby. He actively supported Deiondra’s pregnancy journey on social media, showing his approval at every milestone. However, it seems Deiondra might have dashed one of his dreams.

While Deion hoped to be in the delivery room, it seems less likely. She might also not want him involved in planning her baby’s future.

Deion Sanders is awaiting the “lil engine’s” future

Deion Sanders might have to hold off on his dreams of coaching his first grandchild. For months, Deion has been joking about the baby’s potential height, considering both Deiondra and her boyfriend Jacquees are around 5’6″. Deiondra’s revelation of the baby’s long arms during the anatomy scan sparked optimism for a future athlete in the “tall Sanders” tradition.

Following the gender reveal party, Coach Prime got more excited for the “Sanders boy.” Soon, he enthusiastically declared, “We’ve already signed him up for soccer lessons!” However, Deiondra had a different vision for her son’s future. During a Q&A session on June 25, she noted how her family wants her son to play football. But she firmly added, “I don’t want my son to play football because it is very dangerous.”

It seems the “lil engine’s” future sport is still in the air within the Sanders family. We hope this difference of opinion doesn’t cause any problems before the baby comes.
