Mike Norvell‘s Florida State Seminoles are still getting over their playoff snub. They were invincible in their 13 games this season and well on course for the playoffs race. However, it was not to be as their hopes were cut short at the last moment.

Deion Sanders, the Colorado Buffaloes HC was recently asked about the selection of Alabama Crimson Tide football in the playoffs instead of FSU. Sanders regards Alabama’s HC Nick Saban as a legend and shared his views on the same. Appearing on the “Good Morning America” talk show, Coach Prime shared his honest opinions about the 2023 playoff selections.

Deion Sanders, the Buffs’ HC was recently asked about Nick Saban’s team getting the nod ahead to which he replied, “You gotta understand big market football. I mean you’re not going to have a college football playoff without Nick Saban the “Godfather.” The former 10X Pro-Bowler highlighted that the oncoming of Alabama makes the playoffs as tough and also pointed out the rule change from next year.

Prime also pointed out, “I’m thankful that they’re extending the playoffs next year and we will be a part of it!” The HC was of course referring to the rule change set to take place in the NCAA football playoffs from next year.

The playoffs would be extended to 12 teams from the 2024 season which would make things interesting. The change was earlier going to take effect from the 2026 season, but with the Rose Bowl committee’s help, it will happen sooner.

Going by the CFP selection committee rankings, things could look a lot different than previous seasons. Instead of two rounds of play during the playoffs, teams will now have 4 rounds of play. The extension of teams from 4 to 12 would make the way for a busy playoff schedule. The teams could play in a round-robin format before making it to the quarterfinals. Followed by semis and then ultimately progressing to the finals.
