The discussion behind Caleb Williams’ future in the NFL draft continues to turn heads more than ever. Williams, the quarterback for the USC Trojans, announced his decision to declare for the NFL draft 2024 and since then, has been a topic of discussion for all draft-related news. Rightfully so, since Williams was one of the best players that the NCAA witnessed last season.

Williams is predicted to be the number 1 draft pick for the upcoming NFL draft. With the Chicago Browns receiving the first pick in the draft, the fans are assuming that they will most likely pick Williams because of his unmatched talents and skills. Then there’s the Washington Commanders who are next in line to make the pick. Kliff Kingsbury, who was with the OC for the Trojans, is currently the OC for the Commanders and is known to share a great relationship with Williams. This could very well mean that Williams has a more likely chance to be at Washington. And this is what USC coach Lincoln Riley had to say about the situation.

The NFL draft has taken the sport by storm and with only 80 days left for the event, the tensions seem to be rising. Williams has been the top-rated player this past season and will most likely end up with the Commanders rather than the Browns, that is if given the choice. Since Williams is a number-one pick player, the Chicago Browns might very well choose him before Washington gets a chance.

In response to this dilemma, Riley said, “They have a great relationship. It was awesome for Caleb to have Kliff…In a perfect world would I love a reunion for them? That would be great. But we all know a lot would transpire between now and the draft.” Thus, it is evident that Williams ending up with the Commanders seems like an idealistic situation but the fans still have their fingers crossed. Moreover, Williams recently shared that he would not want to be a part of the Chicago Browns, which turned thousands of heads.

On a recent episode of the popular show, ‘The Herd’ by Colin Cowherd, he brought a storm upon himself when he was the bearer of bad news for Chicago fans. Cowherd said, “I do not think it’s possible that Washington trades up and Chicago allows Washington to trade up because Caleb and his group do not want to go to Chicago.” Soon after, the team of Williams contacted Cowherd and asked him to issue a different statement since they weren’t anti-Chicago. Later, Cowherd added to the comments and said, “I got a call from the Caleb Williams camp and they went, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Colin, we don’t want to be painted as anti-Chicago and we don’t want to be painted as anti-Bear,’” he said. “And they made it clear to me that they said, ‘Listen, we don’t want to go to a city that doesn’t care.” Thus, as the NFL world continues to go into a frenzy about the future of Williams, one thing is for certain, this year’s NFL draft will be one for the ages.
