Deion Sanders has always been a figure of boldness and fearlessness. But even the mighty Coach Prime cowered in the face of Colorado’s famous live mascot, Ralphie the Bison. The upcoming ‘Coach Prime’ docuseries holds a lot of interesting behind-the-scenes content from Prime’s first season in Colorado, with the trailer offering a glimpse of the Buffs traditional bison run scene.

Ralphie, the live mascot of the Buffs, keeps the tradition alive when the Buffalo runs a horseshoe pattern around Folsom Field before each half during home games. Ember is the sixth bison to take the prestigious position as the live mascot since 1967. And she scared the lights out of Deion Sanders in their first meeting.

Deion Sanders’ first meeting with Ralphie shook him

When Coach Prime Deion Sanders joined Colorado, he had to follow the ‘Ralphie’ tradition. And in the latest ‘Coach Prime’ trailer, we can see him getting ready to meet Ralphie for the first time. Sanders clearly showed his anxiety over the situation as he stated in disbelief, “Oh we’re supposed to stay here while the thing is coming? Oh no!”

Ralphie leads the Buffs into the field as the announcer shouts, “Here comes Ralphie!” As she made a run around the field, her handlers made Coach Prime wait inside her trailer as he opposed, “Oh, I’m not standing here while this thing is coming at me full speed.” Although he called his meeting with Ralphie “intimidating,” now they’re on good terms.

The Buffs’ choice of choosing Ralphie as the team’s mascot has an interesting backstory. According to Colorado’s research associate, Brooke Neely stated, “Americans have long been fascinated by bison. And it’s because they’re such imposing, striking, kind of mesmerizing creatures.” He also stated why the Buffs chose Ralphie saying, “Of all the animals that they were exploring, the bison really was most captivating and sort of reflective of the spirit of CU.

The upcoming season of ‘Coach Prime’ docuseries is eagerly awaited by thousands of fans nationwide. The Ralphie incident may be quite a thriller but it’s surely not the only exciting aspect of the series.
