Quarterback JJ McCarthy tried his best on Saturday night’s Fiesta Bowl at the State Farm Arena in Arizona. The CFP Semifinals went down to the wire with TCU Horned Dogs coming on top of the Michigan Wolverines in dramatic fashion. And Michigan’s QB McCarthy shared his frustrations with four simple words.

JJ McCarthy stood at the centre of the field as he watched the Texas Horned Dogs celebrate their win while the confetti rained. And he should not be miserably heartbroken about it. McCarthy led the Michigan Wolverines to a 13-0 season. And more than an apology to the fans, JJ’s post game presser was more of a solemn promise to the Wolverines fanbase.

After the 51-45 game where JJ threw some crucial interceptions, the mood inside the Michigan camp was still one of positivity.

You know all credit to them. They won the game in the 60 minutes that was played. And they’re a good football team. We fought our hearts out. There were a lot of things that we could have done better. I can’t wait to watch the tape. But we will be back. I promise that,” McCarthy said as he got up to leave the media meet after only 26 seconds and one question.

How much was JJ McCarthy at fault for the Fiesta Bowl loss?

It was a big day for the Horned Dogs. TCU went into the game as heavy underdogs and are now on their way to the first national championship. A title they haven’t won since 1938. However, JJ McCarthy did everything he could to rescue Michigan from an early collapse in the game. The Wolverines trailed 21-6 in the first half and a comeback became statistically improbable. And JJ McCarthy’s 2 turnovers didn’t help with that.

Within the first 10 minutes, JJ threw his first pick to Bud Clark, who ran for 41-yards to convert it into a TD for Texas. McCarthy’s second interception came when Dee Winters picked off a pass from a correct read at the end of the third quarter, running it back for 29 yards for the score once again. On any other night, JJ’s 343 passing yards with 2 touchdowns on 20/34 passing would go down as legendary and probably game-winning. But not this time.

JJ McCarthy saw the same end last year when he lost at the Orange Bowl. And with Jim Harbaugh at the helm, the Wolverines may just live up to their QB’s promise. The former Chicago Bears coach was linked to the big league, but it doesn’t look like he will leave without the championship to his name either.
