Deion Sanders etched his name on the history pages by standing as one of the few two-sport pro athletes. Having won the Super Bowl twice, and played in the 1992 World Series, Sanders became the first athlete to achieve the feat. And now his sons are trying to follow in his footsteps.

Despite a poor 4-8 record last year, none of the Sanders men have lost their optimism for the coming season. Coach Prime has assembled top Offensive-Linemen for Shedeur and Shilo’s final year with the Colorado Buffaloes. While Deion never misses a chance to sing Shedeur’s praises, has he always been pampered this way?

During the Super Bowl LVIII weekend in Las Vegas, the Sanders family made several appearances for interviews and promotional events. While Deion spoke with Rich Eisen, Lil Wayne, and even appeared on the Dan Patrick Show, Shedeur Sanders pulled off a marketing genius for Gatorade.

On his appearance with Overtime, Shedeur opened up about the sacrifices he made growing up. He shared a glimpse of his upbringing to silence the critics who try to pull him down with nepotism critique. “It’s really to inspire others. Because I was that kid, I was at HBCU,” Said Shedeur. “When people say ‘ You cocky’… Nah it’s just I understood what it took to do that,” He further added.

To shrug off nepotism allegations on his family, he said, “I understand the sacrifices you had to make to get in that position because everybody thinks it’s all [shiny] and fun but you don’t understand the cons about it. ‘You just can’t go party, you can’t have fun. You got to stay down, you got to focus.”

Echoing sentiments of a dream that his father has put on him, eyeballs are bound to rise as fame follows his name all over the place. The attention on Shedeur has recently intensified as rumors linked him to the much-awaited EA Sports College Football 25 video game’s cover. However, fame brings with it a double-edged sword, and Shedeur’s every move is under the watchful eyes of critics and fans alike.

How valid are expectations from Shedeur?

Fans and critics have put unparalleled expectations on him despite averaging 5.5 pts, 2.8 Reb, and 2.5 Assists as a freshman. The offseason preparation has made the star QB to bet on himself. As for Deion Sanders, his mantra to ‘protect Shedeur’ is expected to pay off as the QB is touted to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy to raise his draft stocks.
