The Chicago Bears faced a pivotal decision last year when they opted for Justin Fields over other promising quarterbacks like C.J. Stroud and Bryce Young. Now, with the opportunity to acquire Caleb Williams, they stand at a crossroads once again. With Williams on the horizon, the Bears must carefully weigh their options and ensure they don’t miss out on securing a cornerstone player for the future. Monday morning’s edition of ESPN’s Get Up featured an intriguing segment centered on USC quarterback Caleb Williams ahead of the draft.

Dan Orlovsky, a former NFL quarterback turned ESPN analyst, once again drew attention by reaffirming his comparison of Williams to a combination of Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen. This remark sparked renewed discussion and speculation about Williams’ potential and future in the NFL.

Through the two opening games of the season, Caleb Williams has ignited the Trojans to a promising 2-0 start. Following an outstanding performance last season, where he maintained a remarkable 66.6% completion rate along with 42 touchdowns and merely five interceptions, Williams has continued his stellar form. Dan Orlovsky, who had witnessed Williams twice, suggested, “If Caleb Williams isn’t starting day one and isn’t a highly successful NFL quarterback, it’s the coach’s fault and the organization’s fault.”

Orlovsky further compared Williams to three iconic NFL quarterbacks. Firstly, Lamar Jackson, known for his dynamic playmaking ability and agility in the pocket. Then, there’s Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, both revered for their exceptional arm talent and ability to extend plays. Williams comfortably fits into this elite category, showcasing a blend of athleticism and precision that sets him apart from his peers. According to him, the Chicago Bears cannot afford to let Caleb Williams slip through their fingers and potentially transform into a superstar with the Washington Commanders.

The Bears gear up to draft Williams

As the Chicago Bears prepare for the 2024 NFL draft, they can’t shake the memories of past draft blunders. In 2017, the Bears traded up to select Mitchell Trubisky at No. 2 overall, passing on future superstar Patrick Mahomes, who went to the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 10. Trubisky failed to live up to expectations, while Mahomes became one of the league’s top quarterbacks. While it’s easy to criticize the Bears in hindsight, other teams also passed on Mahomes. Even respected evaluator Kyle Shanahan opted not to select him.

Now, with the No. 1 overall pick once again, acquired from the Carolina Panthers, the Bears face a crucial decision. Last year, the Panthers chose Bryce Young over C.J. Stroud with the same pick. As they weigh their options, the Bears must consider their quarterback situation, with Justin Fields entering his third NFL season. While there’s excitement about the prospect of drafting Caleb Williams, the Bears must tread carefully to avoid repeating past mistakes and secure a bright future for the franchise. Who do you think they will pick? Let us know in the comments!
