Tom Brady shocked the world when he announced his sudden retirement from football earlier this offseason. Many fans could not process the unfortunate news delivered by the GOAT. But during his 40-day retirement, Pro Bowl guard Ali Marpet also stepped down from active competition.
Many fans speculated that Marpet will also make a comeback after Brady unretired. But that does not seem to be the case. The defensive star has other things that he would like to focus on these days. Leaving football behind, what exactly is Marpet up to now?

Ali Marpet will not pull a Tom Brady
Back in February, shock waves were sent to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans. Many of their beloved stars seem to be walking away from the game. Tom Brady announced his faux-retirement, TE Rob Gronkowski also seems to be done with football. But one player is certain that his time on the field is over. It is the defensive guard, Ali Marpet.

Marpet is just 28-year-old. Many would argue that the athlete had not even reached his prime. But according to the athlete, football is a past life now. And to be fair, he has done it all. Marpet got selected for the Pro Bowl and also won the Super Bowl. He was one of the best defensive players in the league. Maybe it is better to walk away when everything is good.

“The biggest reason for me was the physical toll: I didn’t want any more of that. There were some things I wanted to accomplish in my career that I had done,” said Marpet. “I loved playing football. But one of my strongest values is health, and if I’m really going to live out what’s important to me, it doesn’t make sense to keep playing. There are also the unknowns of the head trauma of the NFL and how that plays out. Plus, your joints, the aches and pains that come with surgeries, and all that stuff.”
Unlike Tom Brady, guard Ali Marpet would not unretire 40 days later. And unlike Brady, Marpet opted to end his NFL career just as it had started to soar. Here’s why.

Marpet was concussed in November 2020. As a result, he missed three games. The guard said that he suffered mild symptoms afterwards too. Football is a tough game. It demands a lot from the athlete physically. Keeping that in mind, Ali Marpet will not pull a Tom Brady. He will be going back to school to complete his degree.
