The gods of fortune did not smile on Adam Gase and the New York Jets last season. The Joe Douglas-led organization finished last in the AFC East behind the New England Patriots.

They won just 2 games last year with HC Adam Gase and QB Sam Darnold both exiting the Big Apple this year. What next for the Jets? Well, in Zach Wilson, new coach Robert Saleh might possess the next ‘big thing’ in the NFL.

Wilson was a revelation with the Brigham Young Cougars in 2020. He has thrown for 3,692 yards with 33 passing TDs against just 3 interceptions last year.

At 21, Zach could be the perfect replacement for Darnold in New York. At least, that’s what a certain league insider opines.

Zach Wilson on his way to New York this summer?

Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, NFL Network correspondent Adam Schefter claimed the New York Jets have made up their mind over picking Zach Wilson at #2 at the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.

He said, “Greenie, I sent him a text yesterday I said Welcome to New York Jets officially. Okay, so, that’s about as far as I could go right now. Wilson would seem to be the obvious choice at number two. It looks like he’s headed to the Jets.

“You don’t trade Sam Darnold and make that move without knowing that you’re going to pick a quarterback at two. So let’s play out.

Trevor Lawrence is going to Jacksonville. The Jets are on the clock. And they’re going to take Zach Wilson from Brigham Young,” Schefter said on the show.

Let’s keep an open mind though. Former San Francisco 49ers DC Robert Saleh is well-revered amongst his colleagues. A student of HC Kyle Shanahan, Saleh will have his backup options prepared in case the Zach Wilson experiment doesn’t pan out. There are other options to choose from in this quarterback-rich draft class.

Justin Fields, Trey Lance, or even Mac Jones can land in New York. Guess we’ll have to wait to find out.
