Storied franchise joins the hunt for Aaron Rodgers

While the New York Jets have been at the center of any and all trade talks for Rodgers, a brand new opponent has arrived at the table. The Niners have Trey Lance coming off a broken ankle and Brock Purdy, who isn’t expected to throw until August or September. With the recently signed Sam Darnold being the only healthy QB on the roster, the Niners have a lot of space for a QB like Aaron Rodgers to jump in. The only hold-up for the Niners will be their lack of tradeable draft picks.

A path back home for Rodgers

The Niners, above all, have the greatest selling card amongst any team in the league. Aaron Rodgers and the Niners go back a long way. Much before the two would have a storied rivalry, facing each other in the playoffs every year. Aaron Rodgers’s favorite team growing up, was the San Francisco 49ers.

Back in 2005, when Rodgers was about to enter the NFL draft, it was widely rumored that the 49ers would select him with their first-round pick. However, the team opted to choose Alex Smith instead. Now, almost two decades later, the 49ers have a chance to make amends for their decision in 2005 by bringing Rodgers back to Northern California. Whether or not they will be able to pull off such a monumental trade, however,  remains to be seen.
