Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have come to be synonymous over the years in the NFL. And this synonymity was extended to a new level when the Chiefs tied down the superstar QB to a 10-year deal. A deal that was record-breaking at the time setting Mahomes up as the highest-paid QB back in 2020.

Despite adding another Super Bowl to his name and to the Chiefs’ trophy cabinet earlier this year. Mahomes has fallen down the list of highest-paid players in the league. Although his contract is still one of the biggest in history, it pales in comparison to his fellow stars on an annual basis.

Chiefs’ star Patrick Mahomes ranks 22nd on the list

Patrick Mahomes is one of the most valuable players in the league, as suggested by the awards he has won over the years. He has won the MVP award for both Super Bowl and NFL with the Chiefs Since the anniversary of his mammoth contract with the Chiefs, he has fallen down to 7th in the list of highest paid QBs in the league.

Mahomes takes home an average of $45 Million each year. In comparison, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts take home almost $7 million & $6 million, respectively. He is behind the likes of Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson in terms of his average pay. On top of that, he sits 22nd for signing bonus with $10 Million, and 8th for base pay with a value of $5.5 million to his name.

The new contracts which are set to influx the league will only push Mahomes down in the rankings. Despite Mahomes commitment to the Chiefs and his dedication and performances on the pitch. It surely seems like he is a tad bit underpaid when compared to fellow QBs. Rodgers and Wilson are the only ones to have delivered a super Bowl who sit ahead of him, and they only managed it once. To rub salt on the wound, Mahomes readily agreed to take a pay cut to help the Chiefs.

When the Chiefs came to their MVP in need of help, Mahomes did not disappoint. In an effort to adjust their salary cap, the Chiefs asked Patrick Mahomes to restructure their contracts to have better leverage in the market. Mahomes happily agreed to do so, but only for the Chiefs to face hiccups, anyway. The magnanimous sacrifice will surely warm the hearts of Chiefs fans. But he is not the only NFL star to have agreed to help out their team.
