Tom Brady surprised the NFL world when he announced his retirement for the second time in two years. This time, his decision seems to be a permanent one. But after coming back to the league after his first retirement, the NFL world is not too sure about how it’ll play out this time around. 

There has been a lot of speculation about what caused Brady’s retirement. Despite being 45 years old, it seemed like he had more fuel in the tank. His recent slump in performance was alarming, but by no means has he hit rock bottom. So, what prompted this decision?

Tom Brady hasn’t been the most forthcoming individual about his personal life or career in the last few weeks. That left the door for speculation wide open. Many assumed that the QB had one more year to complete his quest for an eighth Super Bowl title. And TB12 doesn’t deny it. While speaking to Jim Gray on his podcast ‘Let’s Go!’, he said, “There’s always gonna be a part that wants to play and a part of me that, you know, feels like I can play.” Brady believes that he can still take the field, but his decision is fueled by the requirement of his attention to other aspects of life.

The QB’s passion for football is undeniable. The very fact that he may take the stage soon enough as an analyst is a proof that he cannot be parted from the game for too long. The QB added, “So I think for me it’s more of just, it’s gonna end at some point, and I think now’s the time. And it’s not that I can’t do it. It’s not that I wouldn’t want to do it. It’s not that I wouldn’t be excited to play. I love playing football.” But what do fans have to say about TB12’s belief that he can still play?

Brady has become akin to the boy who cried wolf because of his unretirement the first time around. Perhaps fans will finally believe that he’s left the game for good when they see him suited up, ready to call games from the broadcasting booth. Then again, this is TB12 after all. The future, despite his announcement, still leaves a lot of room for speculation.
