Aaron Donald Credits His College Coach for Giving Him the Tools to Succeed: ‘He Actually Helped Me and Taught Me How to Actually Study Film’

The Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle, Aaron Donald is one of the top defensive players in the league. However, to reach such a great height, he endured a long and arduous journey that began many years ago when he was in college. Donald credits his coach Inoke Breckterfield for his success.

Coach Nokes recently provided insights into Donald’s journey. He said that the thing that has made him so calm on-field is his ability to assess the game. He has a strong understanding of the game and all this is because of the learnings he gained in college. Donald learned to study film in college and to be patient when waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Donald would spend hours watching films after games, so he would know what play to expect. However, he gave credit to coach Nokes for the skills he has developed.

Aaron Donald expresses high regard for his coach

Aaron Donald said, “My junior year in college I had a defensive line coach named Coach Nokes. He actually helped me and taught me how to actually study film.” Donald added that the guidance he received from coach Nokes was very beneficial. He noted that there was a noticeable slowdown in the game, and he was able to make out what the opponent was trying to do.

Donald mentioned that whenever he watched a film with his coach, Nokes would explain to him whatever they encountered. Consequently, he saw his game developing further. It is therefore his patience and the assistance from his coach that has enabled him to become one of the best defensive tackles in football.
