Aaron Rodgers has been through a roller coaster of a season. The veteran QB has dealt with injuries to his ribs and thumb. Aside from that, the Green Bay Packers haven’t had a season they’d be proud of. But a victory over the Los Angeles Rams propelled the Packers forward after an extended backward descent. With Rodgers far from his MVP form, speculation surrounding the QB’s future with the Packers is thriving within the NFL world.

Rumors of backup QB Jordan Love’s waning patience concerning his role as Rodgers’ bench warmer adds to the dichotomy of the matter. So, what does A-Rod have to say in the future?

Apart from a few instances where the QB displays his anger on the field, Rodgers is a relatively calm individual. The quarterback’s ability to answer tough questions with the same intonation as describing a mundane task like doing laundry makes it difficult for fans to decipher the gravity behind his words.

While speaking to reporters, Rodgers was asked about whether the longevity of the stay of younger players on the Packers squad would impact his decision to continue as QB1. He responded, “Well, I think first and foremost it’s going to be my own physical and mental health and how I’m feeling about committing to you know another year, two, three down the road.” While it’s no surprise that Rogers is prioritizing his needs in this scenario, he also stated that his teammates also play a minor role in keeping him bound to the Packers.

A-Rod said that the relationships he has with the team are important to him. He added, “I think there’s [sic] three or four other guys on offense who have kind of unsettled futures so I’m sure keeping those guys around would definitely give me something to look forward to because those relationships are so important to me.” While this may not seem like an extraordinary revelation, the accusations that have been thrown at Rodgers in the past are contrary to what the QB said.

Rodgers may not be the only key to the Packers’ success

Rodgers has been accused of being selfish about his indecision regarding his role in the Packers’ future. But, taking what he revealed into consideration, the QB seems fairly certain that he could build a better foundation for the team if members of his current squad are retained. The Packers, who haven’t looked good all season, provided the NFL world with a glimpse of what they could’ve done this year after beating the Rams. But the defense’s brilliance also proved that they don’t have to be reliant on Rodgers to be successful.

Mixed signals from backup QB Jordan Love make the current situation more perplexing. Apart from that, head coach Matt LaFleur has spoken on the record about wanting Rodgers to stick around next season. But why would he say otherwise? A-Rod’s contract gives him power over the decision to leave or stay. Additionally, even if Rodgers chooses to leave, he gets paid regardless. The Packers’ future is a sticky web that fans can’t help but tangle with. A more clear picture will be unveiled only with time.
