The San Francisco 49ers dropped the ball on Aaron Rodgers

Growing up in California, Aaron Rodgers was a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers. Rodgers was inspired by his hero Joe Montana. He wanted to be just like him. In an interview in 2019, the quarterback talked about his Niners roots. “I want to go out and be like that. I watched Joe Montana and Steve Young growing up, so those were my two favorite players. Being right-handed, obviously, I thought I was Joe. I distinctly remember watching the Niner-Bengal game [in Super Bowl XXIII], The Drive, on the eight-yard line and going all the way down the field and hitting John Taylor to win that game, and following that up with a 55-10 victory over Denver. That was my childhood.”

After the draft in 2005, a reporter asked if he was disappointed that the Niners did not pick him. Confident as ever, Rodgers replied, “Not as disappointed as the 49ers will be that they didn’t draft me.” Well, time will not favor the words of the quarterback. The 49ers would go on to defeat the Packers four times in the playoffs with Rodgers throwing the ball.
