A little good news for all who are anxious about the Aaron Rodgers deal. The saga might be nearing its conclusion. Although the final agreement is still some way off, the Packers and the Jets are definitely making progress in the deal.

According to Tom Pelissero, the Packers GM Brian Gutekunst admitted the franchise won’t necessarily get a first-round pick for Rodgers in the event of the trade. So, the Packers have probably flinched a bit on their demand.

It certainly doesn’t mean that they won’t get it at all. The Jets may give up a first-round pick for 2024. According to Charles Robinson, the Packers will get a second-round pick for the 2023 draft. They may also get a conditional second-round pick which turns into a first-round based on some criteria. But the Jets fear that Rodgers may hang his cleats after just one season. In that event, they have asked that their second pick gets back to them in 2025.

The saga for the ages

Aaron Rodgers has been the face of the Packers franchise for the last 18 years. He took over from Brett Favre and kept a steady ship all through his stint at Lambeau Field. The ship did rock a bit towards the end and the QB is taking the route that his predecessor took, jetting off to the Jets.

During his time in Green Bay, Rodgers established himself as one of the game’s greatest quarterbacks by winning four league MVP awards. He also lifted the Super Bowl title with the team in 2011. But as all good things come to an end, this saga for the ages might be in its final paragraph.
