As the 2023 NFL season approaches, teams are making changes to their rosters, and the Dallas Cowboys are no exception. They have acquired Stephon Gilmore, a talented cornerback who will undoubtedly bolster their defense. In fact, his signing is seen as a significant boost for fellow Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs.

According to a former NFL wide receiver, the addition of Gilmore will force opposing teams to make adjustments. He believes that the Cowboys’ defense will be even stronger with Gilmore’s expertise, and Diggs will benefit greatly from playing alongside him

In a trade deal, Stephon Gilmore, a highly talented cornerback who previously played for the New England Patriots, is headed to the Dallas Cowboys. Former wide receiver T J Houshmandzadeh suggests that this move will serve two purposes: Firstly, Gilmore’s addition will strengthen the Cowboys’ defense even further. Secondly, his presence will be beneficial for Trevon Diggs, another cornerback for the Cowboys, who could learn from Gilmore’s experience and expertise, leading to further growth and development in his skills.

“Gilmore is, what Wills just said, one of the best corners in the game. And this is what’s gonna happen. Trevon Diggs is gonna get paid because he gonna have so many targets thrown his way,” Houshmandzadeh said during his appearance on ‘Speak’.

But why will all the offenses suddenly target Diggs? According to Houshmandzadeh, between Diggs and Gilmore, most of the offenses will choose Diggs which will benefit the Cowboys.

They were avoiding him at times last year. Who are you ganna target now? Gilmore and Diggs, I think I’m gonna go and target Diggs,” the former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver said.

The Cowboys got Gilmore in a trade deal with the Indianapolis Colts and all they lost is a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. Not a bad deal for one of the best cornerbacks in the game.

Despite being 32 years old, the player put up impressive numbers for the Colts during the 2022 season. He recorded two interceptions and 53 solo tackles, while also defending 11 passes. Although the team was unable to make it to the playoffs, their overall performance improved. However, the upcoming season will pose a significant challenge for the Colts, as they will need to find a suitable replacement for this skilled player.
