Adam Schefter Believes Sam Darnold Will Eventually be Traded by the New York Jets

Sam Darnold arrived in New York as the third-overall pick at the 2018 NFL Draft. He signed a 4-year deal worth $30.25 million fully guaranteed, which also included a $20 million signing bonus. But his time with the Jets has not gone as per plan.
In 38 starts, Darnold has a 13-25 record in the NFL. He has thrown for 8,097 yards with 45 passing TDs against 39 interceptions. The former USC player ended his 2020 NFL campaign with more interceptions than touchdowns. But now his time with the New York Jets is drawing to a quick end.

NFL Network correspondent Adam Schefter appeared on the latest segment of ESPN’s First Take. The league insider was adamant that Sam Darnold and other in-demand quarterbacks could still be traded in the coming weeks.

He said, “They’ve gotten a bunch of calls from a bunch of teams and see even though today is the start of the new league year and the real start of free agency that really got underway on Monday, this is not a deadline for these quarterbacks like Sam Darnold and Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson, the real deadline is before the draft during the first round of the draft when these other quarterbacks are about to be selected… That’s when these moves are going to be made closer to the draft, then closer to free agency.”

“This is an artificial deadline. This is not any sense of urgency right now….I have a feeling that some circumstances will be a little bit different six weeks from now,” Schefter said on the show.
Darnold is reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Wilson in Seattle. He is also being linked with potential moves to Washington Football Team and Denver Broncos. His dual-threat capabilities will definitely interest multiple teams across the league, whether as a potential starter or a decent backup option.

But with the Jets closely monitoring Justin Fields and Zach Wilson, one thing’s for sure, Darnold’s time in the Big Apple is over.
