Tom Brady retired from the NFL four months ago with no plans of returning anytime soon. However, the 7x Super Bowl champion’s influence over the gridiron is still pretty much unmatched. In fact, his former 6x Lombardi-winning head coach Bill Belichick may be employing some of his old seasoned Brady tactics on his present quarterback Mac Jones. And no, this does not concern the quarterback playbook. It’s more about the troublesome relationship between Belichick and his QB1.

The problems between Mac Jones and Bill Belichick have been brewing behind the scenes for quite some time. The strife began way before the current offseason got underway. However, one particular New England Patriots insider thinks that this is pretty similar to the Tom Brady and Belichick episode; one that ended with dynastical success for Foxborough. So how is Tom Brady still influencing the Patriots camp?

As per reports ranging from January this year, Patriots QB1 Mac Jones and his head coach Bill Belichick don’t have the best of relationships. It kickstarted when the 24-year-old passer reached out to people outside the Patriots camp for coaching guidance during the 2022 season. The rumors aggravated in the off-season when media houses reported that Belichick was trying to shop his starting signal-caller. However, Mac Jones is back to the starting spot in the pocket before the Patriots lock down for their summer training camp. And Patriots insider Tom E. Curran doesn’t find this surprising at all.
“It doesn’t matter. The guys that (Belichick) liked were Cam Newton and Jimmy Garoppolo. So, what’s that tell you? It doesn’t matter. There’s no come-to-Jesus meeting. No embrace. There’s no getting into Bill’s head and channeling whether he personally likes (Jones) or not. Get out of seventh grade for a minute,” Curran said on NBC Sports Boston’s Early Edition.

This doesn’t bother Curran as it’s all too familiar from the time Brady and Belichick beefed and still won multiple Lombardis.

“The back half of the Patriots dynasty was comprised by the greatest head coach of all time and the greatest quarterback of all time not really liking each other a whole h–l of a lot,” Curran added.
TB12 didn’t have a lot of nice things to say about Belichick
“Tom Brady once said to me in 2016: ‘Weirdest guy I’ve ever met. It’s what I’ve been living for 16 years.’ And he spent three more years of it,” Curran added.

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are on pretty cordial terms nowadays. As the 15x Pro Bowler is set to grace the Gillette Stadium in the Patriots’ season opener, he recently dwelled on his relationship with his former head coach. Belichick was one of the first people to wish Tom Brady congratulations after his seventh ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“Were there times when you know it wasn’t always eye to eye? Very few and far between, actually. I still envision our relationship as positive and always will,” Brady said during his latest media tour, as per ESPN.
Will the strained head coach-quarterback relationship work in favor of the Patriots this season? And can Mac Jones follow the TB12 model to drive the New England franchise to a seventh Lombardi?
