Kansas City Chiefs have seen a lot of changes in the recent few years. Tyreek Hill‘s departure from the team was the most surprising of them all. Despite maintaining good stats for the season, he was still traded to Miami Dolphins. These constant changes must have had a toll on Patrick Mahomes. Tyreek even claimed that he and Mahomes were brothers off-field. Tyrann Mathieu also left the team in 2021, whom Patrick claimed to have wanted on the team for as long as the latter could. But these changes didn’t hurt Mahomes as much as the recent one.

Despite letting go of their best teammates, the Chiefs still managed to come back to the top. But this season, Mahomes has lost not only a teammate but also his friend to his biggest rival team, Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals were able to snatch away their offensive tackle, Orlando Brown Jr. from the Chiefs. Brown was given the chance to play as a left tackle for the Bengals, which he wanted to do for a long time. The signed contract is worth $64.09 million, so it was very obvious for Brown to hop on the transfer train. Mahomes was very unhappy about the transfer. Besides being the top 5 offensive tackle who led the Chiefs to the Super Bowl last year, he was like a brother to Mahomes.

Mahomes recently appeared in an interview where he was asked about the whole transfer issue. The reporter asked how it felt to have lost a friend to another team. Mahomes answered, “It’s tough. I still talk to Orlando. We had a great friendship off the field. You understand how great of a player he is. He makes Cincinnati an even better football team, so that stinks for us.

Even though Mahomes admitted that Brown’s transfer hurts the Chiefs and strengthens the opponent, he was very happy for his friend to have scored a good contract. He further added in the interview, “I’m happy for him that he got a good place where he was able to get a good contract that he deserved.

They still remain friends after the transfer

Even after the transfer, Mahomes keeps in touch with Brown. But as they are both competitive players, there will be some hustle and tussle in the future. The Chiefs have extremely benefitted from having a defensive tackle like Brown on the team. Even though Brown is gone from the team, the Super Bowl team is looking stronger this year. They are also looking for a new wide receiver to further strengthen the offensive team.
