Patrick Mahomes gets a lot of questions about his contract since other QBs got big deals. He has established himself as a premier QB in the NFL in the last few years. But his $500 million deal has started looking pale in comparison to some other players playing in his position. Amid all that chatter, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback once poured his heart out on all matters related to money.

Mahomes signed a 10-year deal with the Chiefs back in 2020 worth around half a million. But recent extensions involving Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson and a few others mean that the yearly payout for Mahomes looks pale. There are a few rumors about a possible new deal for the two-time Super Bowl champion to make him the highest-paid player in the league. But it looks like it’s not the money that bothers the MVP QB.

Patrick Mahomes opened up about the value of his contract a few months ago, during the training camp last season. According to the Chiefs QB, quarterbacks getting higher deal values than him is good for the overall player market. He also said at the time that he wants to see the salary cap go up and players make more money. But what about a piece of the new money pie for himself?

“When I saw my deal, I knew I was gonna be pretty set for life regardless of where the market kinda happens. You just keep playing. I mean money is one thing, but you need those Super Bowl rings in your career. That’s the thing you look back upon. And I think I have made enough money from the football field and obviously off of it as well. …You always wanna get paid and take care of your family but I wanna have a great team around me as well,” Mahomes said in a press meet during the 2022 training camp.

Since then, even his Super Bowl LVII opponent Jalen Hurts and the Baltimore Ravens Lamar Jackson has gotten mammoth deals. While Hurts got a five-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles worth $255 million ($51 million a year), Jackson earned a $260 million deal for the same duration. So Mahomes’ $50 million a year looks pale at the moment. But is a new deal on the horizon for him at Arrowhead Stadium?
