The Denver Broncos brought in Russell Wilson last year as a solution to their offensive woes. But his time with the franchise hasn’t gone exactly to plan till now. Despite this setback, there may be a change in strategy surrounding Wilson. A three-time Super Bowl champion has claimed that the team is spending $250 million on rebuilding, after unwise spending of the same amount the previous year.

Despite the team’s struggles, the quarterback has a proven track record in the league. Now, the Broncos have recognized their missteps from the last offseason and are making changes to correct them.

“The Denver Broncos have spent a quarter-of-a-billion dollars to overcome the quarter-of-a-billion dollar mistake they made last year,” Schlereth said.

The former NFL guard said that the Broncos have shifted from making the QB win them games to playing by his strength. He then listed some of the qualities that the franchise is targeting to fix the problems.

“It’s all about mitigating Russell Wilson and not making Russell Wilson win you games. It’s getting back what Russell Wilson does well, is controlling the line of scrimmage. It is running the ball. It’s using multiple tight end sets, it’s having a real life fullback. It is about football players,” Schlereth added.

A lot has changed since Russell Wilson came to the Broncos from the Seattle Seahawks last offseason. It was a blockbuster deal that had the potential to make the franchise a contender in the AFC West. But instead, head coach Nathaniel Hackett lost his job as the team finished with just five wins in the 2022 regular season. And they finished dead last in their division.

Sean Peyton has come in to replace Hackett and has already taken control of the team. Going by Payton’s record, he can make Wilson turn it around in Denver. After all, the new head coach is the one who gave the NFL a prime Drew Brees. So the Broncos country is hopeful of a better showing in 2023.

Wilson is currently enjoying time with his wife and daughter, but he will be raring to go. If only to prove all his doubters wrong.
