Colin Kaepernick is one of the few athletes in the league who remained steadfast and resolute, in the face of adversity. He spent all of his football career with the San Francisco 49ers, only to be released from the team in 2016. His famous kneeling during the national anthem is widely known, which is the sole reason he hasn’t gotten an offer from any other team. However, he doubled down on his activism, becoming a civil rights activist, with multiple projects for the betterment of the community.

Notably, his remarkable foundation has gotten a lot of recognition all over the country for the betterment of black and brown youths. So it’s safe to say that the former QB isn’t stopping anytime soon. Then, in recent news, months after letting go from the team, a former RB turned free agent has now chosen to follow in Kaepernick’s footsteps.

Similar to Colin Kaepernick, the former Cowboys turns heads all around

The 2023 season wasn’t all smiles for the ex-Cowboys, RB Ezekiel Elliott. After spending half a decade with the team, his tenure came to an end, propelling him into the realm of free agency. As the draft season comes to an end, there are not enough discussions about his signing to any other team, as none has shown any interest. Letting him go from the team now gives the 10.9 million in cap space, further exploring alternate athletes for the upcoming season. Following these series of unfortunate events, Elliott finds solace in community work, much like the former QB, Colin Kaepernick.

A sportswriter by the name of Nate Latsch took to Instagram to post a set of pictures from a football camp, held at Mathews-Dickey Boys and Girls’ Club. In the photos, Ezekiel can be seen giving interviews and a speech in front of a massive crowd, and also taking pictures with the kids from the camp. Moreover, he can also be seen signing merchandise at the camp. In those pictures, Ezekiel dons a black t-shirt, with a yellow logo, and an engraved term that reads, “Ezekiel Elliott Football Pro Camp”.

Aside from these pictures, several young kids can be seen playing at the event, and even happily interesting with the former RB. The caption of the photo concluded with, “What a great event for hundreds of kids,” signifying the massive crowd.

In terms of Kaepernick, Elliot has a significant ground to cover

Since his time with the 49ers, Kaepernick set up three organizations with an aim to educate black youths about political education, systematic change, and teaching history through storytelling. He also made a $1 million donation, following his exit from the league. He is also known for his numerous charitable endeavors to help the ones in need. However, he has yet to find a place in the league and remains as a free agent.

On a side note, Kaepernick is set to make a return to the football ground, however in a digital form. Titled “Wildcard Football”, his new arcade-style game is set to be released on October 10, the trailer of which was recently released.

Despite letting go from their teams, both Kaepernick and Elliot are doing exceptional work off the court. And it will be interesting to see what cards they have up their sleeve in the future.
