The photo captures him seated on the floor with a backdrop displaying the word “NASA.” Luke shared this powerful image with his fans, along with a profound quote from the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy.

The caption reads, “This city of Houston, this State of Texas, this country of the United States was not built by those who waited and rested and wished to look behind them. This country was conquered by those who moved forward–and so will space.” President John F Kennedy— Rice University 1962.” This remarkable speech was delivered by President Kennedy during his visit to Rice University, addressing the nation’s space effort. Interestingly, Kennedy’s motivational influence extended beyond the university; he once lent a helping hand to the Green Bay Packers in the 1961 NFL championship game.

Kennedy’s friendship with Lombardi became fruitful for the Packers

The late President John F. Kennedy was not only a devoted NFL fan but also made a significant impact on many, including the Packers. He formed a close friendship with coach Vincent Thomas Lombardi. During the 1961 NFL title game, Lombardi approached Kennedy for a favor to grant leave to ‘the Golden Boy,’ who was in the military, and at that time the US was at its most crucial point in the Cold War.

President then granted star player Paul Hornung leave from military duty to play. Endorsed by Lombardi during the 1960 presidential election, Kennedy agreed and ensured Hornung’s availability. The favor paid off, as Hornung’s outstanding performance significantly contributed to Green Bay’s dominant 37-0 victory over the Giants.
