Elon Musk has rocked the entire world with his controversial move on the verified status of users. As a result of the move, many celebrities have lost their verified status on the platform. The NFL stars are also not immune to this. After the whole fiasco unfolded, an NFL veteran has taken a stand against the Twitter owner by reiterating the Anthony Mackie stance.

Marcellus Wiley quotes Anthony Mackie to Elon Musk

Marcellus Wiley has something to ask from Elon. He wants to know what is going on with the Twitter verified status of prominent people.

“He came in and said everyone could buy it. And then he said I’m gonna wipe it unless you buy it and then he said some people I know don’t want to buy it so I’m gonna buy it for them. What the hell is going on with Elon Musk? Like it makes no sense,” Wiley said on his ‘Never Shut Up’ podcast.

The former Buffalo Bills DE then quoted the Falcon of MCU Anthony Mackie to Musk on the spread of fake news due to the move. “This dude made a great point,” Wiley said, quoting Captain America Mackie. “Now y’all figure it out what’s real from fake. All it’s going to do is amplify a platform a thousand times fold because you ain’t gonna know the real from the fake.”

Wiley hoped that all the publicity coming Musk’s way in the next few days is good. That is because of the unintended consequences of his move to mess up with the blue tick.

“They said back in the old days that all publicity is good publicity…. All this publicity, I hope it’s gonna be good publicity,” the former DE added.

Many celebrities might have lost their verified privileges, but there are some who have kept them without even paying, courtesy of Elon Musk.

Elon pays up

Elon Musk has reportedly paid for the verified status of select celebrities. This list includes Star Trek actor William Shatner, NBA Legend LeBron James and author Stephen King. James and King have already stated that they aren’t going to pay for their verified tag. But when the dust over the whole move settled, they still had their blue checkmarks intact.

Most of the NFL stars have lost their status, however. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill even questioned the apparent bias in a cryptic tweet. Only time can tell how the whole move pans out for Musk and Twitter. Will it impact lives in any significant way? Do share your opinions in the comments section.
