With the 2022 season fast approaching, teams are gearing up to the grueling upcoming matches. The franchises’ off-season and pre-season camps are important for the athletes as they use these to work on individual skills and gaps before the important matches begin. The team management uses the camps to introduce players to new plays and to have a feel of the team before the regular season begins.

But for the Baltimore Ravens, the 2022 camp may be slightly different this time. This year QB Lamar Jackson’s contract is up for negotiation and from the looks of it, it is being currently negotiated. Lamar attending the camp might depend on how he and the Ravens management work out the details of his continuing association with the franchise for the upcoming seasons.

Analyst Jamison Hensley tweeted from his official handle about Jackson’s unwillingness to give a straightforward answer to any question about his contract.

Lamar is clear that he wishes to continue playing with the Ravens for the rest of his career. But his answer hasn’t been very clear when asked about his contract. His replies were variations of a single statement, ranging from “We’re having a conversation about it” to “We’re in conversation right now” to “We’re having a conversation about it. I don’t know”.

The Ravens drafted Jackson in the first round of the 2018 draft. As a result, his rookie contract is up for negotiation this year. This has led to a slightly unclear situation regarding his participation in the 2022 training camp prior to the season. So far, Jackson has continued to deflect all questions regarding his contract, with unclear answers.

What does Jackson have to say about being a part of the 2022 season?

Despite the unclear situation with his contract, Jackson seems positive about carrying on at the Ravens. He has already stated his wish to continue with the team for the entirety of his career. Although he did not give any obvious answer to attending camp, he also did not seem to be planning a holdout.

Earlier he had attended the team’s mandatory minicamp for the upcoming season. He also mentioned about meeting with his wide receivers and tight ends for throwing sessions at Florida Atlantic leading up to training camp. He said, “We’re going to work, watch some film and just build our chemistry some more. Football season is here, really. So we’re going to grind right now.”

While the contract situation remains unresolved, it is good to know that Jackson isn’t planning to disassociate himself from the club solely based on contract delays. However, given the situation, the future of Lamar Jackson at the Ravens remains to be seen
