The Kansas City Chiefs are certainly not sitting on their laurels as they prepare for the 2023 season. They already have a super team, capable of tearing down any opponent. But the franchise seems intent on making life difficult for anyone they face next season. They are considering a ‘confused’ wide receiver for a game-changing mission.

This comes amid a big $9 million sacrifice by the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. The franchise wants to make the most of it by giving him an even more deadly offensive weapon next season.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ targets

The Chiefs just won the Super Bowl last month. And it looks like they are making moves to ensure the longevity of their victory streak. For that and their mission to find a lasting replacement for Tyreek Hill, they are reportedly chasing the signatures of Odell Beckham Jr.

It’s not just OBJ that they are looking at. The Chiefs might also be considering bringing in All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Both are scary options that will strike fear in anyone who faces the Chiefs. But who will actually come in as an offensive help for Patrick Mahomes remains to be seen.

All the drama around his own comeback has ‘confused’ Beckham a bit. Many reports suggested that the explosive wide receiver wants a $20 million-a-year contract from the teams that want to sign him. But the 2022 Super Bowl champion wants to know where the quote came from.“I’m just so confused where the quote is from me tht said I want 20…..all I’m sayin is 4 AINT enough,” Beckham Jr said in a tweet. The Chiefs want OBJ and have already made some moves to facilitate that. The big one was, of course, the $9 million maneuver involving Mahomes.

To make any moves in free agency, the Chiefs needed significant cap space. And they made that room through a maneuver with the salary of their QB. The Chiefs converted $9 million of the roster bonus they owed Patrick Mahomes and converted it into a signing bonus. Thus, it enabled them to have that much amount of cap space to burn in the free agency this year.

Replacing Tyreek Hill is no mean feat. They did it in the 2022 season with JuJu Smith-Schuster. But he has now gone as a free agent. So the Chiefs are back at the drawing board and have two options, OBJ and D-Hop. Who will they pick? And how big of a whole will it burn in their pockets? Will Mahomes’ sacrifice be worth it? What do you think?
