Analyst Lauds Deshaun Watson Despite Underwhelming Season with Houston Texans

The 2020 NFL season has been one to forget for Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans. After failing to win their first four fixtures, the Texans decided to part ways with head coach/ GM Bill O’Brien in October 2020. Veteran Romeo Crennel was appointed as interim head coach to see out the season. But he could only help Houston to four wins as they finished third in the AFC South above the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Despite a below-par season, Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson was a standout performer this season. The former Clemson man led the league in passing yards (4,823), throwing 33 TDs against just 7 interceptions. However, his efforts were all in vain as the Texans failed to nail down a playoff spot after some poor defensive displays over the last four months.

On the latest segment of ESPN’s Get Up, host Mike Greenberg rightly highlighted the performance of Texans QB Deshaun Watson in 2020. The promising youngster was one of the sole bright lights for the Texans who went 4-12 this season.
Greenberg said, “Somehow Deshaun Watson keeps these dudes in games, it’s phenomenal to watch. Every week his defence does its best to create insurmountable leaves and he makes it a game. He deals with the same hell and high water my auntie said she had to deal with walking to school every day.”

Additionally, co-host and former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark echoed the same sentiments.
“That’s exactly what you saw watching Deshaun…J Watt apologised to Deshaun Watson walking off the field, he said ‘I am sorry, I have wasted one of your years’. That’s how good this dude was playing…This team was absolutely terrible and without this dude, they’re not even in it,” Clark said on the show.

Watson will return to the field in 2021 with the Texans as they aim to re-group and re-calibrate in the coming months. The AFC South big boys are on the lookout for a new head coach after O’Brien’s exit in 2020.

But it will be crucial for them to involve Watson in the planning process as they attempt to bring about a ‘culture shift’ in the organisation. Let’s hope 2021 will end on a more positive note for Deshaun and the Texans as a whole.
