Ohio State Buckeyes’ quarterback Justin Fields was near unstoppable in the game against the Clemson Tigers in the Sugar Bowl. Even after receiving a brutal blow during the second quarter of the game, Fields carried on and ended the night with 6 touchdowns to his name and the all-important win for his team.
The highly rated QB from Ohio has recently come under the scanner for his inconsistent performances over the course of the season. But if Justin Fields’ performance in the Sugar Bowl is anything to go by, he’s a star in the making.

Justin Fields determined as ever
Football analyst Jesse Palmer during a segment of CFB on ESPN talked about the tenacity and grit displayed by Fields to carry on after taking the brutal hit and leading his team to victory.
“Unbelievable toughness. There’s no doubt about that to play at the level he did with that injury. I was more impressed, though I think with the mentality and approach Justin Fields brought to this game.
“And the competitive nature of his. He looked like a man possessed,” said Palmer.

“He (Fields) was obviously very motivated based on how last year’s semi final against Clemson ended on the interception where he was trying to target (Chris) Olave.
“He had heard a lot of detractors. And he struggled in big games this year against Indiana & Northwestern,” he added.
But the matter of the fact is that Palmer paid no heed to his detractors and remained focused on the task at hand. And eventually, that helped him get his team to the National Championship game.
Doubts over #2 QB pick put to rest
Palmer also said that Fields’ performance will have done a world of good to his draft stock. Fields’ reputation had recently taken a hit following his inconsistent performances due to the COVID-affected season.
“There was some talk this week that maybe Justin Fields isn’t going to be the #2 quarterback selected in the draft. Maybe that would be Zach Wilson. He put all that to rest,” said Palmer.

Palmer also said that if the QB can channel the same mindset for the National Championship game, the fans should expect a high-scoring affair.
“If he takes that same mental approach into the national championship game against Alabama with weapons around them. They’re gonna score a lot of points.”

Fields needed a big game against the Clemson Tigers to dispel the ghosts of the past. His performance from the front showed the character the player possesses to face challenges head-on. A key attribute lacking in the New York Jets locker room.
