Another Billionaire Enters the Washington Commanders Bid Wars After Reports of Jeff Bezos Getting Banned

The Washington Commanders franchise is up for sale, but the frontrunners to take over the organization have changed. Earlier Jeff Bezos was considered to be the most probable future owner of the Commanders, but as the situation stands Bezos is out of the mix.

In place of Jeff Bezos, the owner of the Houston Rockets, Tilman Fertitta has emerged as a potential successor to Snyder. Back in November, Dan Snyder got the Bank of America involved to help evaluate the potential transactions of the club. Despite these statements, there are still doubts about whether Snyder intends on selling the team or just putting a minority stake up for bid.

As the situation currently stands, Dan Snyder would rather keep ownership of the team than sell it over to Jeff Bezos. Bezos was reportedly interested in being part of the bidding process, but Snyder made sure that Bezos was not allowed to participate. The reason for doing so is considered to be the resentment that Snyder harbors for the tech giant. Bezos’s Washington Post levied a number of serious allegations against the Commander’s administration, even going as far as accusing Snyder of abetting sexual harassment in the workplace. This eventually led to a soured relationship.

Washington Post reported that the owner of the NBA franchise Houston Rockets, Tilman Fertitta, is one of the few names that have emerged in the bid for the Commanders. Fertitta’s bid landed at an estimated $5.5 billion, per the report. Still, he’s not considered to be the only frontrunner. Fertitta along with Josh Harris are two of the people of have gotten a full tour of the facilities and are on top of the list.

Having purchased the team back in 1999 for $800 million, it is evident that Snyder’s time with the Commanders has reached its final chapter. Not to mention the serious allegations against Snyder and the team that are still under investigation. If he, however, refuses to comply or comes up with unrealistic expectations for the sale, then there is a good chance that the other team owners might withdraw their support.
