Currently, the Browns QB remains on the roster waiting for his options to appear while recovering from his recent shoulder surgery. The franchise excused the disgruntled QB earlier this month from the mandatory full-team minicamp to send a clear message. The franchise has used this approach to avoid potential face-offs between the old and their new QB on the grass.
However, according to sources close to the NFL, the league will be issuing a suspension for Watson for potentially a year. It only creates more doubts and concern in the minds of Browns’ fans. They might not be seeing two of their NFL starting QBs play in 2022.
The holdout for Mayfield has been the majority payment of his $18.86 million salary and the refusal from the franchise to pay. It became a sticking point for the franchise to unload him during free agency.
How does this leave things between the Cleveland Browns and Baker Mayfield?
The developments with Watson have a significant bearing on the Browns and their former starting QB Mayfield. While there remains interest from the Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers, Mayfield has seen a depreciation. While Mayfield has been looking for a way out from Cleveland, it seems the team will pay his $18.86 million salary.

The scenario for Mayfield will depend on the decisions made by Browns’ organization. Any decision will be based on an eye toward their future. Even head coach Kevin Stefanski believes the situation with Mayfield is unique.
A mutual parting of ways is what both parties are hoping to achieve.

It is time for the Browns organization to fight two important battles at the same time as the new NFL season approaches. While they will get ready to challenge Watson’s suspension, third-choice QB Jacoby Brissett will start in games. The changes could be season-altering for the Browns fans, with the coming weeks proving crucial to their upcoming season.
