Arizona Cardinals Kick Out Colts Reject Rodrigo Blankenship After Only One Game With an Injury Settlement

Entering Week 9, the Cardinals make a major revamp inside the locker, especially after waiving the kicker Rodrigo Blankenship from the roster. The Georgia Product had played only two games with the side after being rejected by the Colts post the Week 1 performance.
The 25-year-old happens to be an emerging talent with great precision; however, his frequent tryst with injuries sidelined him from getting opportunities. On Wednesday, the Cardinals made the roster love announcing that the management waived Rodrigo Blankenship with an injury settlement.

Last season he could only play for the first five games, connecting for 11 of his 14 field goal attempts and missing only one of the extra-point attempts. He incurred a serious hip injury and thereafter got placed in the injured reserve.

Despite getting a green signal from the medical team, he was never used the entire year. Fortunately, he got a chance in the season opener for the Colts; however, he missed the game-winning kick in overtime, which eventually led the team to waive him.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals used him for the last two games. He connected for two field goals and two for three extra-point attempts. The youngster was initially signed by the Indianapolis Colts in 2020 as an undrafted agent.

He showcased an exceptional performance earning the PFWA All-Rookie Team honors. Blankenship hit 32 of the 37 field goal attempts and 43 extra points, just missing two of them.

“He’s definitely unique. I would say he’s probably the most unique guy that I’ve coached to this point,” Ventrone said in an interview. “I’ve only been coaching for six years. But even as a player he’s probably the most unique player that I’ve been around. I’ve been on a bunch of different teams and played with a lot of different people.”

“I would say there are a good amount of times specialists are a little different personality-wise than some of the position players,” he added, praising the rookie. Well, things would be quite difficult for Blankenship moving ahead as half of the season is gone. Moreover, he needs proper conditioning as the youngster has been struggling with hip injuries for a long time.
