NFL Superstar JJ Watt Reacts to the Shocking Retirement of Soccer Legend Sergio Aguero

The soccer world is shocked after learning that one of its iconic players has retired. Manchester City legend Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero announced he has to retire because of a heart condition. Aguero is just 33. NFL star JJ Watt took to Twitter to express his feelings. 

The legacy of Sergio Aguero

Hailing from Argentina, Sergio began his career in 2003 at just 15 years of age. Sergio Aguero played in a club called Independiente in the Argentine Primera División. In 2006, Kun moved to Spain after joining Atlético Madrid. This is where at a very young age Aguero got exposure and he started to shine. He won the Golden Boy and the World Soccer Young Player of the Year. Aguero also won the UEFA Europa League and the Super Cup.

Aguero’s best years were yet to come. In 2011, Sergio joined the EPL after signing with Manchester City. During his stay in England, he helped his club win the league title five times. Perhaps the most iconic moment of his career was the last-minute goal Aguero scored for City against QPR. In his debut season, this goal brought Manchester City their first league title in 44 years. Aguero became the club’s top goal scorer of all time with 260 goals. In the early 2010s, Sergio was definitely a force to be reckoned with. 

In May 2021, Aguero signed a two-year deal with Barcelona F.C. He made his debut in October. But in a game later that month, Sergio was taken off the field during the first half. He was experiencing some chest pains, which later revealed that Sergio was suffering from arrhythmia. On December 15, the striker announced he will retire from professional soccer. 

NFL star JJ Watt sends a heartfelt message to Aguero 

JJ Watt and Aguero are friends. They met in 2017 when Manchester City was on a tour in America. During Thanksgiving, Watt invited Sergio to his house in Houston.

After learning about the unfortunate news, the Arizona Cardinals defensive end tweeted, “A career of dominance and brilliance that nobody can deny. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world and allowing us to come along on the journey.” Watt also wrote, “Wishing you absolutely all the best in retirement and hope you thoroughly enjoy the next chapter, my friend!”

Aguero is one of the best players to ever grace the soccer fields. It is sad the way he had to retire and sports fans worldwide are shocked.
